A Short Tour of the Eregion Railroad

Equipment lined up in Fornost Station,
Waiting for the morning runs.

The equipment assigned to the Fornost Local is push-pull equipment with these cab cars leading the southbound train. The newer equipment (on the right) was the first push-pull train in Bree Line service. It was so successful that older equipment, such as the train on the left, were also converted to this kind of operation. The control stands in this and other Bree Rebuilds were obtained from Budd RDC cars when they too were converted to push-pull service. The train platforms are made of cardboard covered with bookbinders' paper.

Here, the Fornost Local heads out from Fornost station on its southbound 50 minute trip to Bree. It will join the "main line" once it clears the bridge and turns south...

Only problem is that the "main line" was never built north of this point, but at one time it was proposed that the line should continue all the way to Lake Evendim. This effort came to an abrupt halt in the face of a sheer rock mountain. There is a flour mill on that line, but what looks like the main line is in practice only a very short siding.

Here is our train again (at the moment on the northbound track) at Archet Station. The platform here is long enough to accomodate a nine car train. The Archet Local is on the rightmost track as we look at this picture. The cab car on that train is one of the converted Budd RDC units. They never ran well on this system, and their power units are now used to provide the train with hotel power; motive power comes from an FA2 locomotive at the other end of the consist. The chain link fence keeps people from walking across the tracks. They must go up to the staion house, and then down on the other side, as this is a very busy station.

This photo of Coombe Station shows both of the Archet Locals, the northbound in the rear, and the southbound, with the cab car leading from the other end of the train in the front.

These FA2s have long since been painted over in the ERR colors of brown and orange. This station used to have the platform between the tracks, and passengers actually crossed the southbound track. With the increase in service on this line, the center platform was pulled out, and two outboard platforms were provided. There is a fence between the tracks, you can see the stairway leading down to an underpass on the far platform.

The Fornost Local arrives at the Meadowbrook Road station.
I had never planned to put a station here, but it looked so much like the Spuytn Dyvil station in New York City, that I had to put one in here. The eastbound track is just in front of the southbound track. Just beyond this curve they both duck into a tunnel, and while they come out on the same right of way, the difference in elevation on the two tracks is large. The northbound track continues its curve to the north and into the hills, while the eastbound track ducks into yet another tunnel and then heads on out to Midgewater Marsh, Weather Top and Rivendell; eventually to reach the end of the line at Lonely Mountain.
